The speech marked a turning point for the couple, offering clarity after months of rumors and doubts about their relationship.

Timothée Chalamet won best actor at the 31st Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday for his performance in Marty Supreme, marking his first win after four nominations.

Chalamet, 30, accepted the award after being nominated alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Ethan Hawke, Joel Edgerton, and Wagner Moura. During his acceptance speech, Chalamet thanked his fellow nominees, his team, and the film’s director, Josh Safdie, before closing with an appreciation for his partner, Kylie Jenner.

“And lastly, I’ll just say, thank you to my partner of three years,” Chalamet said from the stage. “Thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Kylie Jenner, 28, was seated in the audience and was shown mouthing “I love you, too” in response. The two also shared a kiss after Chalamet’s name was announced as the winner.

The win marked Chalamet’s first Critics’ Choice Award following previous nominations for ‘Call Me By Your Name’ in 2018, ‘Beautiful Boy in 2019, and ‘A Complete Unknown’ in 2025.

The film ‘Marty Supreme’

Marty Supreme is a 2025 American sports comedy-drama directed by Josh Safdie and loosely inspired by the life of table tennis player Marty Reisman. The film stars Timothée Chalamet as a professional player competing in the 1950s for a world championship title.

The film premiered at the New York Film Festival in October 2025 and was released in theaters on Dec. 25, 2025. It was named one of the top ten films of 2025 by both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute, along with three Golden Globe nominations, including best actor for Chalamet.

And the couple were both seen together at the New York City premiere of Marty Supreme in October 2025 and also at the Los Angeles premiere in December 2025.

How people responded to his speech

Video clips of the acceptance speech circulated widely on social media platforms following the broadcast. People were surprised and excited at the same time by his confession on stage. Some of them were shocked by the three-year timeline Chalamet mentioned in his speech, as one person wrote in a Reddit post, “Some of that timeline must have been secret, or I have left reality and can no longer perceive the passage of time accurately.”

Chalamet and Jenner have not been very public about their relationship. His mention of three years surprised many, as most people did not expect the relationship to have lasted that long. By mentioning it on stage, he acknowledged the length of the relationship and publicly recognized Jenner in a way he had not done before. One person commented, “There are so many young guys in entertainment that wouldn’t claim their partners, much less thank them and express love so publicly. It’s nice to see!”

While many doubted their relationship at the start, after the speech, people couldn’t stop complimenting them and how they couldn’t wait to see marriage on the cards next. Some people added that Kylie deserves all the love and attention that Chalamet has been giving her.

A relationship that had been underestimated

For years, Chalamet and Jenner have faced judgmental comments from people doubting their relationship, with online discussions saying, “his career will get in the way,” and others guessing it’s all temporary and he’ll leave her. They went so far as to doubt his ability to be a good father to Kylie’s child. There have also been rumors of a possible split, despite the couple continuing to appear together but maintaining a low profile. Their decision to keep their relationship largely private left room for speculation, leading people to view them as a temporary couple.

By referring to Jenner as his “partner of three years,” Chalamet publicly confirmed the length of their relationship for the first time. The statement addressed lingering doubts and gave clarity to a relationship that had often been a topic of discussion.

The speech also followed a weekend of increased public visibility for the couple. Jenner attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival to support Chalamet and later posted photos from the event on Instagram. Chalamet “liked” the post and commented with orange heart emojis.

Jenner’s mother, Kris Jenner, also shared public support for Marty Supreme, posting photos wearing film merchandise during its release week. Chalamet was also included in the Kardashian-Jenner family’s Christmas celebrations this year, with his name appearing on the family’s gingerbread house.

Why this matters

Moments like this resonate because they push back against the increasingly transactional way celebrity relationships are often perceived. In an industry where public acknowledgment is carefully managed, Chalamet’s words reframed success as something built alongside, not apart from, personal stability. It also challenged the assumption that privacy equals fragility, showing that low visibility does not necessarily mean low commitment.

On a broader cultural level, the speech tapped into a growing appetite for authenticity, especially from public figures whose lives are constantly scrutinized. It questioned why long-term relationships are still treated with skepticism when they do not follow familiar narratives or expectations. The reaction highlighted how quickly public opinion can shift when clarity replaces speculation.

Beyond celebrity culture, the moment underscored how validation, spoken simply and publicly, can carry real weight. It reflected a broader conversation about partnership and the value of recognizing support systems in moments of achievement. In that sense, the speech was not just about romance, but about redefining what modern success looks like when it includes, rather than excludes, the people standing beside you.
