MrBeast reveals his biggest personal splurge, and it wasn’t what people expected
The world’s most famous creator usually reinvests every cent into his videos, but he recently admitted to a massive expense that surprised everyone.
When people think of the most expensive things they could buy, they usually picture mansions, luxury cars, or jewelry. For someone like MrBeast, who is famous for doing money-related challenges, people might expect his personal life to be just as lavish as the exciting videos he posts on YouTube. However, the truth is quite different from the extravagant stunts he performs for his audience. While fans are used to seeing him giving away millions, his biggest personal expense turned out to be something much more private and practical than anyone expected.

Jimmy Donaldson, known as Mr Beast, is one of the most popular YouTube creators and an entrepreneur. Although he claims to have ‘negative money’, he manages a massive media empire that includes several YouTube channels and consumer brands like Feastables.
Beyond entertainment, he is one of the most active philanthropists in the digital space. He co-founded ‘Team Trees’ and ‘Team Seas’, which have raised over $50 million in total to plant trees and clean up debris from oceans, beaches, and rivers.
In 2025, he also launched ‘Team Water’ with YouTube creator Mark Rober, aiming to deliver clean water access to 2 million people. Additionally, his dedicated channel, Beast Philanthropy, has funded the construction of 100 wells for clean water, provided thousands of medical procedures, and donated millions of dollars in food and supplies to people in need globally.
MrBeast’s most expensive personal purchase
In a recent interview, Donaldson was asked about the “biggest personal splurge”.
People might have expected him to talk about a mansion or a watch, but the answer was actually surprising. Donaldson said he went to see his girlfriend, and it cost a fortune.
He explained that he doesn’t live near a big airport, so he has to drive two hours to reach a small one, then deal with multiple layovers. He eventually hit a breaking point with the travel time.
“One time, I was like, screw it. I am just going to rent a private jet and fly to her,” he said. Donaldson added that he missed her, and the commercial flights were taking up a lot of time. He explained that the private flight took eight hours, while the commercial route would have been 19 hours each way. “It’s like so much wasted time,” he added.
That one trip cost him about $150,000. He admitted that he felt bad about spending that much, but his priority was just being with his partner. “I felt so bad. But I was like, I don’t know, I just really want to see my fiancée (girlfriend back then),” he told the interviewer.
Spending such a significant amount to spend time with his partner shows how much he values their relationship and time together. Instead of buying something for himself, he put that money toward a few hours of connection because he just really wanted to see his fiancée.
Why it matters
No matter how much money someone has, the best thing they can invest in is an experience. Donaldson could have spent that $150,000 on a physical object that would last for years, but he chose a few hours of travel instead. It suggests that once a person’s basic needs are met, the most meaningful way to spend money is to make memories with loved ones.
It also brings the reality of limited time to light. Early in their careers, many people often work long hours and sacrifice their free time just to save some money. But their priorities change once their personal goals are achieved. They begin to realize that time is something they can never get back. Eventually, they may find it more worthwhile to spend money to gain more free time, as Donaldson did, because those extra hours can be much more valuable than the money spent to save them.
In the end, reaching the top of any field does not change basic human needs. No matter how famous or wealthy someone becomes, they still face the challenge of being away from loved ones. Success might give you more ways to solve a problem, but the basic human needs, like wanting to be with family or a partner, stay the same.
Even for the most famous and rich people in the world, the real priority is still being with the people who matter most.
