Steve Carell has been married to actress and writer Nancy Carell since 1995, and they have two kids: Elisabeth Anne and John. David Beckham married Victoria Adams in 1999, and they have four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. Both families have spent a lot of their lives in the spotlight, and their marriages haven’t exactly been private. Yet, somehow, they’ve made it work.

Relationship advice from Steve Carell and David Beckham

Recently, actors Steve Carell and soccer star David Beckham appeared on the GOAT TV Show. When they were asked to share their goat relationship advice, Carell joked, “I need it, man. What you got?”

Beckham started by asking Carell how long he has been married. Carell proudly said, “It’s been 30 years.” Beckham then shared that he has been happily married for 28 years. He emphasized the importance of supporting your partner no matter what life throws at you. He said, “Supporting your partner through family stuff, through work stuff, always being there, always being present, and making the time to pay attention.” For Beckham, being there means truly paying attention to your partner’s needs and being present. He believes that a successful marriage is possible only when both partners care about each other’s lives just as much as they care about their own.

Carell agreed, adding that “You grow with somebody. You do. And they change, and you change, and there’s an enormous amount of give and take, I think, in any healthy relationship.” People change a lot over the years of a relationship. The person you marry isn’t going to be the same in 30 years, and that requires a lot of understanding from both sides. Carell explained that couples need to be willing to adapt and grow together through their lives. Being flexible helps both partners embrace the changes that come with age and life experiences.

Beckham also admitted he can be quite stubborn, something his wife, Victoria, often reminds him of. His honesty shows that nobody is perfect, and a lasting relationship involves continually working on yourself. Even if stubbornness remains a challenge, their ability to navigate these issues over the years shows they have found a balance between their needs.

Keeping relationships alive over the years

Marriage is a journey that requires a lot of understanding and patience from both partners. At first, everything might feel exciting and new, but over time, relationships often enter a phase where sharing responsibilities and supporting each other become more important.

The couples who stay close long-term are usually the ones who keep making space for each other even as life gets busier and priorities change. Small habits matter more than grand gestures. Checking in after a stressful day, making time to laugh together, showing appreciation, and continuing to learn new things about each other all help prevent the relationship from slipping into autopilot. Long-lasting relationships are rarely perfect, but they tend to be built on consistent effort, mutual respect, and the decision to keep choosing each other through different stages of life.
